Book: Men Are From Mars Women Are from Venus

Progress: Chapter 9–13

While men want to be trusted, women want caring. Words like “What’s the matter, honey?” might have different effects on different sexes. A woman hearing this would feel comforted by a man’s caring while a man may feel insulted or repulsed. When I just moved to the school’s dorm months ago, there are many things to handle. I wanted to be independent, and to solve these problems on my own. However, I felt mistrusted while my mother constantly kept offering advice on how and what to do. To my mom, I’m always a child.

Men don’t want to be changed. There’s a quote that I would like to share with my mom “The best way to help a man grow is to let go of trying to change him in any way.” When I feel trusted, accepted, appreciated, and so forth, automatically I will begin to change, grow, and improve. I will become an independent person gradually.

The author mentioned that men rarely say “I’m sorry.” since it means you have done something wrong and you are apologizing. Women, however, say “I’m sorry” as a way to say “I care about what you are feeling.” And the easiest way to derail an argument is to say “I’m sorry.” I say “I’m sorry” quite often, so I think I’m a caring person but no a woman in this case.

This book is all about understanding and accepting the opposite sex. After completing the book, I grasp the key point in men and women relationship. Although I have never been through a relationship, I know that I’m ready for it.
