Book: Men Are From Mars Women Are from Venus

Progress: Chapter 3: Men Go To Their Caves and Women Talk

This chapter talks about how men and women cope differently with stress. Men will go into their caves to focus on the biggest problem alone, while women tend to share all the details of all the problems they have with their companions. It’s common for a man that he becomes too focused solving the problem and loses awareness of everything else. A woman would feel being ignored and might resent the man as time goes by. I always like to take the interactions between my mom and me for example since she cares about me so much and often has argument with me. Sometimes when I am concentrated on my homework in my studying room, my mom would knock my door and come in, talking about some intricate details that I don’t have any patience to hear it. I am in the middle of a very important task. Why can’t my mom wait when I’m free? The lack of understanding on both side caused a huge gap between them. When I understand that mom wants to receive some relieve through talking, I will be trying to listen. When my mom understands how stressed I am, she won’t be so angry when she feels ignored by me. She has to understand that Martians (Men) talk about problems for only two reasons: they are blaming someone or they are seeking advice. If she’s really upset, I might assume she is blaming me. If she seems less upset, then I might assume she is asking for advice. If I assume she is asking for alive, then I will put on my Mr. Fix-It hat to solve her problems. All in all, with understanding of how men and women cope differently with stress, they might have more space for each other when they feel their companion don’t respect their feelings.
